From Legend to Legacy

This charity was founded after Nelmer lost his courageous battle with colorectal cancer in February 2024. The charity was set up with the aim to reach the goals that Nelmer had made whilst on his cancer journey. With friends and family side by side, we are making those goals reality whilst remembering the legend that he was.

Our charity goals and mission-

Nelmer really appreciated the little things that helped make chemo sessions a little bit more comfortable.  We have been working with the Friends of BHOC  on patient comfort boxes that will be given to patients on the chemo wards during treatment.  They will contain useful products such as , ear plugs, lip balm & hand cream etc, and have been developed in conjunction with the ward sisters and matrons.

We also want to be able to provide meals for people who may not have the energy to cook for themselves whilst undergoing chemo treatment.  We know from experience that particularly with colorectal cancers, sometimes the last thing you feel like doing is eating, but it is so important to maintain energy and strength.  We are still working on the logistics and plans for this, but it will eventually be a service that is run in line with the Food Standard Agency’s guidelines for safe food preparation and distribution.

We want to campaign to have the current screening age lowered for colorectal cancer.

When we were going through our “new normal” and attending chemo and hospital appointments, we sat and talked about how you just don’t realise how many people are affected by cancer,  and we especially found it hard to know that children were going through this. So, the charity has a long term goal of purchasing a caravan-
“Nelmers place” to be able to bring smiles to faces and allow families to make memories.

So this is something he would be so happy to know we are doing, as part of his legacy.

• Football fundraiser & Family Day 
• Rainbow Rose Ball
